How many students are in each class?
Each class must have a minimum of 4 enrolled students. The maximum number of students allowed in a class is 12, to provide an appropriate teacher to student ratio. If multiple students are absent and the class occupancy for the day is 2 students or less, the class will be shortened to 45 minutes for that day.
Do I need previous experience?
All levels are welcome at Rising Heights Dance! From first time in a studio to experienced performer, we are confident we have a class for you! Beginnings adults will find our adult classes stimulating and moving, and more advanced students can reach out to the studio via email or phone for more specific placement questions!
Can I stay and watch my students class?
Parents are welcome to drop their student off and pick them up at the end of class. If you choose to stay we ask that all parents watch from the lobby cameras. During the end of class we will periodically invite parents to come in and watch the last 5 minutes. This is a great time to get pictures and videos.
What to do if my student is sick?
We ask that any student who is feeling unwell remain home for the safety of other students and staff. Please contact the studio as soon as possible to notify us if you will be absent. Classes are not refunded due to absences, there may be an opportunity for a make up class at the teachers discretion.
Will classes be cancelled due to holidays or weather?
Rising Heights Dance has the years worth of closures listed in our studio newsletter. If our studio needs to close due to weather, closures will be notified via email as well as posted on our social media. Make up classes will be scheduled for all classes cancelled due to weather.
How do I care for my students costumes?
Costumes will be distributed once the studio receives costumes for each student in the class. Costumes will be tried on with a teacher present to ensure proper fit. Once the costume is brought home it is to be worn for picture day and performances ONLY until the dance season is completely finished. Costumes should be kept neat and tidy in a costume bag (hanging them upside down will help keep them wrinkle free). Tutus should be hung upside down to keep their shape. All costume pieces (ie. headbands, arm pieces, hair clips) kept in a ziploc or cosmetic bag and connected to the hanger. Tights should remain unused until performance to prevent runs or stains (it is helpful to purchase a second pair just in case). Dance shoes will be the same as worn in class, and should not be worn outside at any time.
Can I get a copy of the Recital Handbook?
Sure! It can be found here!
How should I do my student's hair and makeup for the recital?
Check out the handbook for a breakdown of how each class should have their hair and makeup styled! You can also find our YouTube Tutorial Playlist here.
What should I send with my child to the recital?
All children must bring a clearly labeled bag with extra hair spray, gel, hair elastics, bobby pins, and safety pins.
Your makeup must also be packed and clearly labeled as well as your dance shoes, tights, socks and extra clothing. Don’t forget your costumes too! These are best hung on provided hangers and protected in a costume bag that is clearly labeled.
FOOD AND DRINK - Costumes are easily ruined by food and drink stains. Students are not permitted to leave the backstage area so please pack enough food and drink for the entire time. It is important they have something nutritious to keep their energy up as well as something that won’t stain – this means NO fast food, dips and chips, etc. They also need to bring labeled water – NO soft drinks or juice as it stains the costumes. This is for both the rehearsal and recital.
Children are discouraged from bringing any valuables including phones, iPods, iPads and laptops as the venue and Rising Heights Dance will not take responsibility for any items lost, damaged or stolen.
